Ideation of Covid utility app for tracking building occupancy with multiple entry/exit points.

Headcount

2020

Personal

Stemming from a real need for occupancy control during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. This app was designed to help businesses and venues with crowd control.

Users could set occupancy limits. These were generally defined by each county as a percentage of fire-code occupancy limits, therefore different per any business/location.

Novel to this application was that multiple users could control the count. The business I was working for at the time had multiple entrances and that provided a real issue with maintaining an accurate headcount. The old manual clicker wouldn’t cut it, and some buildings are just too big to close all doors but one as an exercise in bottleneck-ing for crowd control. That’s also a huge no-no for the fire marshals. They don’t like that.

Headcount was designed to scale to any size venue, even malls and stadiums.

Status: Restrictions were lifted before much became of the app, though it could still be functional outside of a pandemic. Let's hope there’s not an urgent need to revive it.
